I find it funny that most writers are often portrayed as humble and anxious and nervous. Personally, I find that to be a bit disingenuous as not every writer is filled with doubt and anxiety.
There are plenty of writers that are confident in themselves and their work and put their writings on display for the world with pride. Personally, I am one of such writers and I want to tell all writers that it is perfectly fine for you to believe in your work and the quality of the stories you put out.
This culture is mainly because writers are portrayed as those who sit in a dungeon and write relentlessly and put out these beautiful pieces of work while they look like the ugly stepsister on Cinderella.
Although authors are celebrated on social media platforms, especially nowadays, the stereotype of the anxiety and doubt filled writers is honestly played out. You don’t need to portray yourself as this meek individual to get people to like you and invest in you.
It is perfectly fine to be a confident individual with a high self esteem and to celebrate your accomplishments. This trend of writers being meek and anxiety filled to seem humble and good-natured is something that needs to stop.
You can be a confident writer.
You can be a confident writer that believes in your work.
You can be a confident writer that believes in your work and will defend it to your last breath.
The only thing you need to temper that belief is the ability to take constructive criticism and learn from it.
Other than that, believe in yourself and your writing and don’t be afraid of showing the world that you do.
