Submission Guidelines

Our submission process at Seven Story Publishing is designed to be streamline and efficient for both the author and us as the publisher.

Our magazine is designed to handle a high volume of submissions and so we want to make this as easy as possible for everyone involved!

Formatting

There is no need for special or specific formatting that is indicative of traditional magazines. Since we are 100% online we simply copy and paste each author’s story onto WordPress and make cosmetic edits as needed so the post looks as appealing to audiences as possible.

We as Seven Story Publishing do not change any of the wording or make any type of editorial adjustments unless it is deemed obvious to us that there was a mistake in either the author’s writing or the transition from the original document to WordPress.

Otherwise, the full integrity of the author’s work is maintained throughout the submission process.

With all that being said, feel free to send in your stories and we will handle the rest!

Word Count

All submissions must fall within the 1,500-20,000 word range.

Our upper limit is 20,000 words.

Payment

We pay authors $0.03 per word on the day of publication.

We only pay authors who are published in physical issues since we accept all online submissions.

Authors must sign the submission contract and send it in along with their submissions if they want to be paid.

No contract. No pay. No exceptions.

Special Note: All submissions must be sent with social media links, bios, and sites to commission work (artists)

Poets

Poets can submit either three short poems, two poems with no more than three stanzas, or one lengthy poem.

3 Poem Submissions: Each piece should be no more than three verses with no more than four stanzas per verse.

2 Poem Submissions: Each poem should be no more than four verses with five stanzas per verse.

1 Poem Submissions: For all narrative poetry or pieces longer than five verses containing more than four stanzas per verse, poets can only submit one piece.

All poems can be sent as is or with an image the author feels represents their poem and an excerpt to describe the work. There is no word count limit for poetry and all forms are accepted.

Artists

Artists can submit up to three pieces (one will be the featured image) along with an excerpt describing their art (optional).

Each artist gets a free 30-minute interview along with their submission as it is part of the overall service we provide (and we need it to post on our Youtube channel and website)

Each submission needs to include social media links and a link where people can commission your work (we want you to get paid even if we can’t pay you ourselves).

Literary Fiction

We look for stories that center around Magic Realism, Realistic Fiction, Literary Fiction, and the like. Anything related to superpowers and other forms of fantasy fiction can be submitted to our other magazines.

The word count we accept is 1,500-10,000 words with an upper limit of 20,000.

There is no special format for you to submit your story in as we will handle the transition of your work over to our site.

We also accept supernatural and speculative fiction for this magazine, so long as it doesn’t exceed the realm of what’s possible in reality and has a more literary style to it.

Publication

We will publish physical issues from June 7th to Aug. 7th every year on a rotating basis.

We will not publish physical issues at any other time.

Wrising Writer’s Magazine- June 7th

Seven Story Magazine- July 7th

Seven Arts Magazine- August 7th

Social Media Links/ Author Bio’s

We believe every author is just as important as their story.

Send your submissions in with your social media links and author bio. This helps us promote you better than simply posting your story as we are constantly expanding our presence and posting to more platforms.

The more people know about you, the more readily they will be able to connect with you and your work. So, remember authors. . .

Social media links and author bio’s please!

Requirements for Submission

All we require is for each author to submit their story via email with the following:

  1. Short Story (no more than 20,000 words)
  2. Links to all social media (so people can find you and your work)
  3. Signed submission contract

All submissions should be sent to submissions@sevenstorypublishing.com

Author Interview Submissions

Author/Artist Interviews last for thirty minutes and are both written and live. This means we’ll need written responses, an author bio, and a graphic of your latest book or artwork. The written interview is posted on our main site after the live one is conducted.

We use Streamyard to conduct our interviews so it is imperative that you are inside, in a distraction-free environment, and have at least thirty minutes of uninterrupted time.

Simply fill out the contact form with the pertinent information and we will reach out to set up a date and time!

Feel free to view the interview questions below to better prepare for the interview.
