Written Author Interview
Tell me about yourself. What do you like to do outside of writing. What is a day in the life like for you?
My day is pretty simple. I have a family of my own that I take care of throughout the day taking care of my two- and four-year-old. Call me boring but when I do have a second in my day, I like to catch up on reading from my endless tbr list.
What inspired your first novel? What was the thing that got you into writing in the first place?
Writing has always come easy to me. I never would have thought to actually write a book until I was just sitting at my table one day and decided to give it a try. It really was a spur of the moment kind of thing and I absolutely fell in love with it.
How do you come up with characters? Are they spontaneous or meticulously planned?
A little bit of both. I know who I want my main characters to be and how I want them to act. I add other characters I go spontaneously but I always need to have a connection with them. If I don’t have that personal connection then we have a problem.
What are some of your favorite genres to read? Are there any books you’d recommend to first time readers or people looking for something new?
Oh gosh. I have so many! I am really into dark romances but im starting to get into fantasy. I just started reading ACOTAR and love it. Fourth wing and ACOTAR are my firsts. For dark romance if you ever wanted to start and dip your toes in I would say the never after series by Emily McIntire is a good starting point. My personal favorite dark romance is the ritual by Shantel Tessier.
What’s the most difficult thing about being a writer?
I can’t speak for all writers because we all have different goals and struggles. For me personally it’s the time. Its hard for me to find time and write without taking away from family time which usually consists of me writing at night when I’m utterly exhausted.
What is your process to completing a novel from outline to final product?
You always have to start with your rough draft. It going to be messy, its going to have A LOT of errors. That’s what your second draft is for, to help clean up and make any changes and fixing plot holes. After that you just read, and re read until your tired of your own book to make it perfect.
What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve written in your novel? Don’t worry, we don’t judge here.
Oh gosh. I write dark romances so it can get pretty unhinged. The most unhinged thing I’ve written is probably from a scene in my upcoming book TWISTED CHAMBERS. There is a specific scene where the MMC is torturing the FMC’S best friends’ father for making a transaction to basically pay for sex with her without her knowing. The MMC takes the FMC panties and shoves it in his mouth before unaliving him telling him to enjoy his last meal. And then kills him.
What’s one thing about being a writer that absolutely drives you up the wall?
Honestly the re reading part. As a writer you are constantly re reading your work and it gets tiring
What does being a successful writer look like for you? What type of life do you want to live as a writer?
For me I think I’ve become successful when I have readers who want to continue to support my work. Yes, I write for myself but I also write for them. I want to be that escape through my writing for them and If I can do that for one person I’ve already won.
Describe your writing journey. If you had to write a story centered around it, do you think you could pull it off?
I think it would be inspiring to those who want to chase their dreams. I’m a veteran and stay at home mom who had really lost herself before this. I want to show my kids and others that you are capable of so much more with hard work and dedication. I don’t think it would be an interesting story but inspiring in some aspects.
