Talking to author Rich Feitelberg
- What inspired you to write this book?
My next novel, Blessed Lady, is a continuation of fantasy adventures in the land of Thalacia, where my fantasy series is set. The inspiration came from ideas and discussions I had with friends.
- How did you choose the title? Does it hold special meaning to you?
The title was obvious once the novel was written; it refers to the main character of the story.
- Can you share your process of writing and how long it took to complete the book?
The book took two years to write because I started before Covid hit and then went into a slump, which ended when life returned to normal.
- Were there any challenges you faced while writing or publishing it?
Staying motivated during Covid was hard.
5. How do you feel about sharing your work with the world?
Awesome! In my opinion sharing the story completes the cycle of storytelling. Otherwise, I’m just talking to myself.
6. Are there any parts or characters in the book that are especially personal or meaningful to you?
The whole book is meaningful; I put a lot into the stories I tell and trying to create memorable characters. That said, I particularly like the narrator, a female dwarf named Froma.
7. What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
The message of the book is tolerance. I hope that comes through and is practiced by my readers.
8. Did you experience any memorable moments during the research or creation of the book?
Not that I recall.
9. What surprised you the most about the publishing journey?
- The number of edits needed to get a really good story.
- The level of efforts needed to attract readers.
- The whole online self-publishing process.
10. Do you already have ideas or plans for your next project?
Yes I have several:
- A collection of short stories set in my fantasy world
- A science fiction novel about Centauri B
- More poetry
- Non-fiction on comic book history
