Who is J.A. Bryden?
J.A. Bryden is an Australian self-published author and podcaster currently residing in the Hawkesbury region of NSW, Australia. He grew up like most kids of the 80s and 90s with dial-up internet and the streetlights as a curfew.
After avoiding books for most of his life, he now finds himself writing them. As a result, he is a sucker for a good story and loves chatting with fellow authors and creatives on his podcast Stories: The True and the Fictional.
Fun Facts About J.A. Bryden
- Give us an example of a life experience that inspired your writing.
I had a friend tell me about a historical event that sounded too wacky to be true (Australia declared war on 20,000 emus and lost.) Just hearing about it put a flood of ideas into my head. I first wrote a screenplay about it, but it inevitably became my first book, Letters from the Emu War.
2. What’s one thing people wouldn’t know about you until you told them?
That’s a tough one. I’m a pretty open person, but something most people find surprising Is that in the first 27 years of my life, I had only read 2 books. (Jurassic Park and The Lost World.)
3. What’s your biggest accomplishment in your writing career?
For me, it’s when a 13-year-old kid from the US reached out to me for an interview because he read my book and was doing a school project on the topic. Whenever a reader reaches out, that’s success to me.
4. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Iceland. After watching the movie Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga, I fell in love with the place. The Northern Lights can be seen from there too, something I’ve always wanted to see.
5. How do you relax when life gets overwhelming?
I live in a small town surrounded by a national park, so I take advantage of that and go for a walk in the wilderness.
