Summary
Out of your league is a NRL Australian sports romance following Brittany Rhodes as she stumbles into a bar only to be swept off her feet by Asher Sokolov, Hunter region Hawks NRL bad boy. After a night they will not soon forget, Brittany shows up at her new job to be introduced to her none other than her brother’s best friend Asher. Can they keep their romance a secret from the whole team and her brother?
ASHER
The Australian rugby league scene is not the same without me — NRL bad boy Asher Sokolov, the rugby player that everyone wishes they could be. The girls love me and my opposition hates me. My team, the Hunter Region Hawks, is desperate to keep me and pays me handsomely to do so. I come home every other night with a new girl on my arm and have the cars and flashy lifestyle to prove I’m the best. There is, however, one problem. I can’t seem to stay away from the one thing I can’t have. My best friend’s sister. I can’t stop thinking about her. The moment she stumbled into my arms I couldn’t stay away and I’ll pay any price to keep her.
BRITTANY
This year will be different. I have scored my dream job training athletes, have set new life goals and I will finally be able to see my brother more often. I have no desire to go back to my old life, wanting nothing more than to start fresh and shake off the demons of my past that follow me wherever I go. That is, until he enters the picture and turns my entire life upside down. I was told to stay away, but there is something alluring about Asher that keeps me coming back for more. I would be risking it all as his coach, but something tells me it’s worth it.
General Review
Description and Imagery: The storyline focuses on the forbidden love story between Brittany and Asher, Brittany’s brother’s best friend. Their emotional journeys were captured beautifully from beginning to end. It’s instant love, bordering on obsession for Asher and undeniable chemistry for Brittany. This portrayal was always consistent. The emotional tension was beautifully written by the author, revealing the inner turmoil of the main character’s thoughts and actions.
Relatability of MC: Brittany’s strong, independent, and driven personality is relatable to those who have had only themselves to rely on when life got tough. The way her character is written, there are many challenges she faces in the story that can be relatable to a wide range of readers.
Pacing: The author hooks the readers from the beginning with a spicy meet-cute scene in the beginning but cools off until over halfway through the book. The story unfolds at a well-paced speed, allowing readers to become emotionally invested. The main characters’ overcoming their struggles by the end of the book seemed to end abruptly, even with the short epilogue.
Perspective: A contemporary setting within the cities of Australia.
The different perspectives of the two main characters throughout the story help build the anticipation of Asher’s and Brittany’s romantic relationship. And the built-up tension of keeping their secret will have readers on edge.
Vibe Check: The story can get a little intense at certain points in the plot. Reading the trigger warnings is a must. Asher’s instant love for Brittany is swoon-worthy, along with his rugby player physique. Their chemistry and spicy scenes will have you blushing. A great read for sports romance lovers and indie supporters.
Personal Review
A rugby romance that delivers on the spice, tension, and how far the MMC will go to declare his love. Asher is the typical hotshot playboy, but once he meets Brittany, he’s head over heels in love. I’m a sucker for the MMC that’s extra sweet and understanding for his woman. I can’t help but feel for all the trauma Brittany has had to face since a young age. Her ridiculous older brother got on my nerves a lot and the way he views her is beyond upsetting. The way Asher and Brittany come together at the end of the book felt anticlimactic and short. I just felt like something was missing. I would definitely read another sports romance by this author and recommend it to those who love this genre.
