Written Author Interview

  1. Tell me about yourself. What do you like to do outside of writing. What is a day in the life like for you?

Outside of writing, I’m usually watching Netflix, playing video games, or taking care of my five cats and my weenie dog. I’m really introverted in person, but online I talk way more. I love cooking and getting comfy on the couch with a show, sometimes with my husband and sometimes on my own. My days are pretty quiet, which is how I like them.

2. What inspired your first novel? What was the thing that got you into writing in the first place?

When I was 14, I was home a lot and spent most of my time hanging around my sister. A friend encouraged me to try writing a story, so I shared every idea with my sister and we planned the whole thing together in the beginning. Now I’m almost 20 and that same story is finally finished.

3. How do you come up with characters? Are they spontaneous or meticulously planned?

My characters usually start out really spontaneous. I get a little spark and build from there. For example, I wanted Nolan to actually grow into himself and face things he used to run from. And I wanted Wesley to experience life outside the castle and prove his worth without a title. So it starts with a vibe, then I shape them until they feel real.

4. What are some of your favorite genres to read? Are there any books you’d recommend to first time readers or people looking for something new?

I read a little bit of everything. Romance, fantasy, psychological thrillers, dark romance, anything that digs into emotions or messes with your head in a good way. I love stories that feel real but still let you escape for a while. If someone wants something new, I always say to start with a book that makes you care about the characters first. The genre almost doesn’t matter if the emotions hit.

5. What’s the most difficult thing about being a writer?

The hardest part of being a writer for me is staying confident in what I’m creating. I’ll love a chapter one day and question everything the next. It’s a lot of reminding myself that the story is worth finishing even on the days when my brain is being loud about it.

6. What is your process to completing a novel from outline to final product?

I  usually start with a rough outline and a few scenes in mind, but a lot of it just grows as I write. I don’t worry about making it perfect at first. Once the draft is done, I go back, fix the messy parts, tweak the characters, and keep polishing until it finally feels like it’s really finished.

7. What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve written in your novel? Don’t worry, we don’t judge here.

Hmm… probably the most unhinged thing I’ve written is a scene where everything exploded emotionally between two characters, and no one knew who was going to break first. It was chaotic, messy, and kind of beautiful. I don’t usually plan those moments. They just happen when the story takes over.

8. What’s one thing about being a writer that absolutely drives you up the wall?

What drives me up the wall is when I hit a pothole in the story and get stuck. You know, when nothing feels right, the characters aren’t cooperating, and I can’t figure out how to move forward. It’s frustrating, but once I push through, those rough spots usually turn into the parts I love the most.

9. What does being a successful writer look like for you? What type of life do you want to live as a writer?

Being a successful writer for me isn’t just about numbers or awards. It’s about having the freedom to create the stories I want, connecting with readers, and making a life where I can write every day without stress. I want a calm, cozy life where I can focus on my craft, maybe travel a little, and still have time for my cats, my husband, and the little things that make me happy.

10. Describe your writing journey. If you had to write a story centered around it, do you think you could pull it off?

My writing journey has been a little messy but also really rewarding. I started young, got stuck a lot, doubted myself constantly, but I kept going. If I had to write a story about it, it would probably be a mix of chaos and quiet victories, full of moments that make you want to scream and moments that make you cry with pride. I think I could pull it off because it’s exactly what I’ve lived.

About

My name is Heather Fox, and I’m an author from New York. Lost Heart of Erythia is my debut novel, a story that’s been five years in the making and holds a big piece of my heart. I share my home with five cats who think they run the place, a weenie dog who’s small but full of personality (he’s convinced he’s the boss), and my husband, whom I married in July 2025.

Writing has always been more than just a hobby for me. It’s a comfort, a way to breathe through the hard days and make sense of the world around me. When I’m not writing, I love creating digital art or soaking in the cozy magic of fall, my favorite season that I truly wish could last all year long.
