Written Author Interview

  1. Tell me about yourself. What do you like to do outside of writing. What is a day in the life like for you?

My pen name is Astrid Poplar. I have the gift of poetry and writing short stories. I received the gift of poetry from heaven during difficult times. I searched the web and started writing short stories, and I use my imagination right now. I stay at home most of the time, and I get inspiration from watching television. A typical day for me is taking care of myself and resting as much as possible.

2. What inspired your first novel? What was the thing that got you into writing in the first place?

I started writing a spinoff of a novella from scratch, which is difficult and time-consuming.

3. How do you come up with characters? Are they spontaneous or meticulously planned?

I create characters from reading baby name books and from people that I see on the news.

4. What are some of your favorite genres to read? Are there any books you’d recommend to first time readers or people looking for something new?

I like romantic genres and children’s books. They are the easiest to understand. I read the book Caucasia a long time ago. It takes a lot to get my attention

5. What’s the most difficult thing about being a writer?

Getting your work to be treated like it is worth something. There are a lot of writers who have been trained professionally, and it is hard for a person like me, who has a gift from God to be appreciated.

6. What is your process to completing a novel from outline to final product?

I have a template for a novella and a thesaurus, and I create a new story with it.

7. What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve written in your novel? Don’t worry, we don’t judge here.

The story is about an interracial relationship between an Asian man and a Caucasian woman. If you are in love, you can relate to it.

8. What’s one thing about being a writer that absolutely drives you up the wall?

Keeping up with the competition and staying up to date on technology.

9. What does being a successful writer look like for you? What type of life do you want to live as a writer?

I would like to have a cabin one day with a book deal. I am open to being international. Getting a degree in English in England is ideal.

10. Describe your writing journey. If you had to write a story centered around it, do you think you could pull it off?

I have a lot of ideas and when I get the financing to do it it will happen. I am willing to travel and network.
