General Review

  1. Description and Imagery: The author did very well in describing the surroundings and the characters position within those surroundings. One can tell a ton of effort and dedication went into the world-building aspect of this story. This area of the story is affluent and abundant and shows no signs of lacking imagination.
  2. Relatability of Characters: This story focuses on a group of people rather than one character. However, the author does a great job of giving each character their time to shine and allowing us to see the inner machinations of their thoughts and feelings. This aspect makes the characters lifelike and gives them a high degree of relatability.
  3. Pacing: This is where the author shines as this work is evenly and consistently paced. For those who like faster paced stories, this work might not be for you. The more leisurely readers, however, can get comfortable and enjoy a nice coffee or hot chocolate as the pacing of this story allows things to unfold at a natural pace, often antithetical to real life these days.
  4. Perspective: This story takes on the third person perspective; however, in conjunction with the second aspect mentioned above, it doesn’t detract from making every character seem like a real person while simultaneously presenting readers with a broader field of vision throughout the entire work. The author used the third person very well in this story.
  5. Vibes: This work gives me Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter vibes. This is perfect for those who prefer epic fantasy and a relatively lighthearted and PG-13 read. All in all, a more wholesome story than anything else with minor bloodshed.

Personal Review

Personally, this story took some effort for me to read. I prefer dark, gritty, and action packed fantasies to the epic fantasy that this story represents. I’m in no way saying this is a bad story, not at all. This is a good story, just not to my particular taste.

If I were just a reader with no concept of writing and the intricacies that involve writing and I happened across this book, I probably wouldn’t pick it up. Not because of anything due to the story itself, but because it would get lost amongst the myriad of books I’d have to choose from.

Other than that, this story is a good story. It has everything that an epic fantasy should have and the author obviously put his soul into it and has my respect and admiration for that alone. I understand how hard it is being a writer and that this career is not for anyone.

And to the author, I wish you all the success and best of luck on your endeavors!

Thank you for writing.

About M. Ray Roberts

M. Ray Roberts was born in Kansas City and educated at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence. In college, he studied History, Geography and beer.

Before discovering how much he loved writing, he worked a wide variety of jobs—including time as a golf course maintenance guy, a clerk at a video store (anyone remember those?), a cook at a pizza joint, a member of a billiard table installation crew, one summer at a hardware store, a few foggy years in the pharmaceutical research industry, and a digital mapper.

He is an avid fan of science-fiction, and when he’s not devouring such materials, he is watching sports, stargazing, or on the golf course—either of the disc- or traditional variety.

His inspirations come from friends, family, daily life, and assorted extraordinary sources like Star Wars, Ridley Scott’s Alien, James Cameron’s Aliens, John Carpenter’s The Thing from 1982, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, J. R. R. Tolkien, Michael Crichton, Stephen King, Carl Sagan and Neil De Grasse Tyson.
