Written Author Interview
- Tell me about yourself. What do you like to do outside of writing. What is a day in the life like for you?
Outdoor life in the PNW – I bike, hike, camp, and travel with family and
friends.
2. What inspired your first novel? What was the thing that got you into writing in the first place?
I began reading books with an eye toward what I would do differently. I had
stories I wanted to create and share, and started down this long and complicated path.
3. How do you come up with characters? Are they spontaneous or meticulously planned?
I generally have an idea for the MCs, but they shift as I get into the story.
4. What are some of your favorite genres to read? Are there any books you’d recommend to first time readers or people looking for something new?
I read a wide variety, pretty much anything other than romance or anything cozy. I love Neal Stephenson, Neil Gaiman, Scott Lynch, Pierce Brown, and enjoy going back to the classics with writers like Hemingway and Bradbury.
5. What’s the most difficult thing about being a writer?
Breaking into the wider market.
6. What is your process to completing a novel from outline to final product?
I’m a pantser, but that follows reading several research books, including both fiction and nonfiction.
7. What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve written in your novel? Don’t worry, we don’t judge here.
My stories can get dark – you’ll have to read them!
8. What’s one thing about being a writer that absolutely drives you up the wall?
The amount of time spent on marketing and promotions. It’s time not writing.
9. What does being a successful writer look like for you? What type of life do you want to live as a writer?
At this point, I want to connect to as many readers as I can. If they’re
enjoying my work, I’m happy.
10. Describe your writing journey. If you had to write a story centered around it, do you think you could pull it off?
I’m too early in my career to have a writing journey worth writing.
But I’ll talk about it!
