Written Author Interview
- Tell me about yourself. What do you like to do outside of writing. What is a day in the life like for you?
- I am in my 28th year with Plano ISD as a member of the Student Services and Management team. I’m also a varsity assistant basketball coach, a public speaker and I enjoy fishing.
- What inspired your first novel? What was the thing that got you into writing in the first place?
- My first book was the recollections of my college football experiences at the University of Arkansas. My teammates encouraged me to write this experience b/c it was a first for the state and the university, becoming the starting quarterback.
- How do you come up with characters? Are they spontaneous or meticulously planned?
- The characters are all teammates and fellow Razorback players.
- What are some of your favorite genres to read? Are there any books you’d recommend to first time readers or people looking for something new?
- I read anything sports related, motivational or criminal intent.
- What’s the most difficult thing about being a writer?
- The most difficult thing about writing is getting the information from my head into the pages coherently.
- What is your process to completing a novel from outline to final product?
- I had Covid to thank in aiding my writing process. I scheduled 4 hours a day and stuck to it.
- What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve written in your novel? Don’t worry, we don’t judge here.
- I spoke the truth to how I was treated, the racist and bias attitude shown towards me by those who consider themselves fans, was abhorring. I actually did not add stories b/c most people refuse to acknowledge they, their family or friends would actually treat someone in such a manner.
- What’s one thing about being a writer that absolutely drives you up the wall?
- Being grammatically correct and sentence structure. But this is the art of storytelling.
- What does being a successful writer look like for you? What type of life do you want to live as a writer?
- Getting a cross section of readers from every genre read the book.
- Describe your writing journey. If you had to write a story centered around it, do you think you could pull it off?
- I Did and it was Therapeutic. My memoir’s writing process was 14 months but it took 40 years to tell.
