Written Interview
Tell me about yourself. What do you like to do outside of writing. What is a day in the life like for you?
Outside of writing I enjoy creating art, painting and other such crafts when I have the time to spare. Usually my days are quite busy with taking care of my children, however even they know that I require reading time. Since I am mainly a mother, unfortunately my days aren’t all that exciting.
What inspired your first novel? What was the thing that got you into writing in the first place?
What inspired my first novel was actually was a conversation I had online with a Booktoker. We were discussing how us moms are obsessed with dark romance but rarely see ourselves included in the main story and more so as the conclusion that happens off page. I always aspired to write a novel one day and when that idea planted itself into my head I essentially decided that the time is now. I decided to learn by doing, so of course many mistakes were made and by no means is the novel award worthy however it is my first and will always hold a space in my heart and journey!
How do you come up with characters? Are they spontaneous or meticulously planned?
My characters are very much so spontaneous shower thoughts. I’ll be mulling over an idea for a story line and they’ll just come to me and then I spend time fine tuning who and what they’re going to be.
What are some of your favorite genres to read? Are there any books you’d recommend to first-time readers or people looking for something new?
My ultimate favorite is dark romance. That said I also enjoy thrillers and for a very long time they held my first place spot. I can’t say I’d recommend any dark romance to a first time reader, it is most definitely something you’re either into or not. As for thrillers Run on Red by Noelle Lhli and Appetite for Innocence by Lucinda Berry are extremely good reads!
What’s the most difficult thing about being a writer?
The most difficult thing about writing is finding uninterrupted time to do so. Getting a second to myself as any parent would know is very difficult.
What is your process for completing a novel from outline to final product?
My process is very novel dependent. I separately outlined each chapter of Phoenix Raised, however with Bodyguard in Pink I outlined the storyline as a whole. It depends on the story and how complicated it is, for my anyway.
What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve written in your novel? Don’t worry, we don’t judge here.
The most unhinged thing I wrote in Phoenix Raised is absolutely the window scene. I had that scene plotted from the beginning, hence why Abbigail is always noticing all of the windows! The entire scene is basically a mock exhibitionist experience for her by the power of Jasper’s suggestion. I’ve been told that the scene is easily a favorite of the book.
What’s one thing about being a writer that absolutely drives you up the wall?
The thing that drives me up the wall is absolutely how difficult it is for indie authors to get the word out about their novels! You’ll research and find places talking about indie author programs, that start at $699.00. While I understand that all programs cost money, it is a lot financially to ask someone who couldn’t afford a hybrid contract, to start dropping thousands into a program that might help and might very well not. Which I’m sure sounds like I’m complaining but really I just wish there was more services like yours!
Describe your writing journey. If you had to write a story centered around it, do you think you could pull it off?
My writing journey is very much in its infancy, but that said if I had to write a book about it I would absolutely give it a very happy ending! 🤣
