Talking more with author V.H. Faolan
- What inspired you to write this book?
When I was young I was obsessed with werewolves & most of the books I read had
them. It wasn’t until I saw Twilight & wished they expanded more on the Quileute tribe
that I wanted to write a fan-fic about them. I barely got twenty pages in before I
decided, “Why write a fan-fic when I can write my own werewolf book?”
2. How did you choose the title? Does it hold special meaning to you?
“Pathical” just came out of the blue. It randomly popped in my mind while writing the fan
fic. Out of everything I wrote, that name stuck with me. It was just supposed to be the
name of a chapter but I immediately knew I wanted to grow off of this name I created.
In that regard, it does hold special meaning to me. I’m a firm believer in what speaks to
you is special. “Pathical” definitely is that for me.
3. Can you share your process of writing and how long it took to complete the
book?
There is never really a process for me. I’ve tried but it never works out that way. I write
scenes as they come to me & plug them in where I & my characters feel they fit. I’m a
pantser – I go with the flow of our characters & the story. Both write themselves lol.
Pathical took me 5 years to write.
4. Were there any challenges you faced while writing or publishing it?
I definitely struggled with pushing past imposter syndrome, my other mental health
issues & motherhood. I planned on finishing Pathical a lot sooner but that had to take a
back seat. Navigating being a mother while trying to get myself back into the mindset of
Pathical took time.
5. How do you feel about sharing your work with the world?
I’m nervous but excited. The world of Pathical as vast as it is dark & the way I wrote her
is a gamble. It’s unlike any book I’ve read or heard of in terms of writing style. In that
regard, I’m more so nervous.
6. Are there any parts or characters in the book that are especially personal or
meaningful to you?
Katalina – my FMC – is very personal because she IS me. I wrote myself into my own
world as her.
7. What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
There isn’t anything specific. Had you asked me months ago, I would’ve said hope for a
better future & finding your mate in life. But the more I think about it, I think that my
readers have those & more to take away from Book I.
8. Did you experience any memorable moments during the research or creation of
the book?
Each time a scene clicked with another I was struggling to connect. It’s like solving a
puzzle.
9. What surprised you the most about the publishing journey?
How many things you need to do to publish especially with a pen name.
10. Do you already have ideas or plans for your next project?
I have a backlog of projects on my comp but Pathical is my main squeeze, at the
moment. I already have her world half way planned out. I might take a break between books to focus on another, but as of now, that’s the plan
